An events mecca, Aspen is a unique destination. Visitors can find a slew of musical events, performances, gallery and museum tours, sports competitions and a multitude of outdoor activities.

JANUARY

  • Aspen Words | Winter Words
    • The 20th anniversary of Winter Words is a chance to meet your favorite author or discover your next beloved book at five evening events held throughout the ski season from January until April. From poetry and historical fiction to graphic memoir and investigative journalism, the 2017 series will take you beyond the book with one of the most diverse and Pulitzer Prize-rich line-ups to date. January 17 - April 4, 2017.
  • Wintersköl
    • Wintersköl, Aspen’s annual “toast to winter,” dates back to a quiet January in 1951 when local Aspenites decided to celebrate Aspen’s unique Nordic lifestyle with an eclectic weekend of festivities. The four-day celebration features the Apple Strudel Downhill, carefully crafted snow sculptures, tubing in Snowmass, fireworks, and much more! January 12 - 15, 2017.
  • Gay Ski Week
    • Aspen Gay Ski Week (AGSW) is the oldest annual, week-long gay ski event in the nation. A model for other gay ski weeks, AGSW offers a unique vacation experience in the scenic and historic mountain town of Aspen, Colorado. AGSW visitors enjoy four mountains of varied skiing and snowboarding terrain, as well as cross-country skiing, snowshoe, and winter hiking trails in the Elk Mountains of Colorado. January 14 - 22, 2017.
  • X Games
    • X Games returns to Aspen, Colorado's Buttermilk Mountain in January 2017 for the world's best action sports, music and festival experience. All sports competitions are free and open to the public. Follow above link for ticketing information and details for concerts and hospitality. January 26 - 29, 2017.

FEBRUARY

  • Aspen Snowmass Freeskiing Open
    • The Aspen Snowmass Open is one of the last and longest running independent open competitions in the nation. It opens up the X Games Aspen Slopestyle and Superpipe and Big Air courses to amateur and professional level athletes. Last year, the open drew around 200 competitors from six nations to test their skills. A rail jam competition is also offered. February 16 - 18, 2017.
  • Aspen Laugh Festival
    • "First we spent thirteen years as the featured site for the HBO/U.S. Comedy Arts Festival, and then three years as the co-producer and home of the Aspen Rooftop Comedy Festival. In 2011, we stepped out on our own and made the Aspen Laff Festival." - Wheeler Opera House. This year's line-up includes Whitney Cummings, Margaret Cho, Adam Devine, and Kevin Nealon. February 21 - 25, 2017.
  • Audi Power of Four Ski Mountaineering Race
    • The Audi Power of Four Race Series is a premier endurance race series utilizing the unique and amazing terrain of each of the four Aspen Snowmass mountains. Each race is designed to test the limits and skills of both elite and recreational athletes. The Power of Four Sport Division has a 6:00 AM race start in Snowmass Base Village. The Power of Two Rec Division begins at 8:00 AM at the base of Aspen Highlands. February 25, 2017.

MARCH

  • Après Ski Cocktail Classic
    • Ranked “top five cocktail festivals in America” by Fodor’s, we celebrate Après Ski and the craft of the cocktail with our Grand Tasting Village and Private Reserve Room, artisanal cocktails, seminars by award-winning mixologists and distillers, snow parties, pop-up bars, demonstrations, fireside chats, special mountain events and (especially!) The Great Après-Ski Pub Crawl and Cocktail Competition. March 9 - 12, 2017.
  • Audi FIS Ski World Cup Finals
    • Aspen will host the 2017 Audi FIS Ski World Cup Finals Mar. 15-19 marking the first time the event has been held in the U.S. in 20 years. The races will feature the best men’s and ladies’ alpine skiing athletes in the world competing in downhill, super-G, giant slalom, slalom and nation’s team event. March 15 - 19, 2017.
  • GORE-TEX Grand Traverse
    • At the strike of midnight, skiers depart Crested Butte traversing the Elk Mountain Range by night, propelling them to a dawn finish in Aspen! Skiers will travel 40 miles, gain 7,800 feet in elevation, and finish between 7 and 16 hours. March 30 - April 1, 2017.

APRIL

  • Buttermilk Mountain Closing Day & Bacon Appreciation Day
    • In celebration of Buttermilk’s closing day, the mountain hosts an annual Bacon Appreciation Day featuring a schedule of all things bacon including bacon waffles at the summit in the morning, bacon samplers around the mountain throughout the day, kid’s games in the base area, a bacon and beer happy hour at Bumps restaurant as well as a bartenders brawl featuring Aspen Skiing Company bartenders duking it out for the honors of the best bacon-inspired cocktail. A cost is associated with the lunches, happy hour and the bartender’s brawl, but all other bacon items are free while supplies last.
  • Aspen Film Shortsfest
    • Save the date! Aspen Film’s Shortsfest is recognized as one of the premier short film festivals in North America. This Oscar-qualifying film festival embraces diverse sensibilities and subjects that capture the zeitgeist of today’s short. April 5 - 9, 2017.
  • Aspen Highlands Closing Day & Schneetag
    • Aspen Highlands is the mountain locals love, with unrivaled views and perfect bowl-skiing.  Don't miss the biggest party of the year Closing Day at Aspen Highlands. Dressing up is not required but strongly recommended. While partying with the locals, Schneetag is a hilarious event not to miss. The 9th annual Schneetag event (pronounced Sch-knee Tog) invites teams of four to create a craft that they will pilot down a slope and attempt to float across a 20x40 foot pond. Every team has a theme and will perform a skit before they descend. This event is just as ridiculous and entertaining as it sounds. April 9, 2017.

MAY

  • Architecture Lecture: Annabelle Selldorf
    • Annabelle Selldorf is the Principal of Selldorf Architects. She holds a Masters of Architecture from Syracuse University in Florence, Italy. Selldorf is a Fellow of the American Institute of Architects, and a Board Member of the Architectural League of New York and the Chinati Foundation. She was the recipient of the American Academy of Arts and Letters’ Award in Architecture as well as the Medal of Honor from the New York Chapter of the American Institute of Architects. Held at the Aspen Art Museum. May 18, 2017.

JUNE

  • Aspen Food & Wine Classic
    • Each year, the world's most accomplished winemakers, celebrity chefs, and culinary experts come together in one breathtaking setting, the FOOD & WINE Classic in Aspen, the nation's premier culinary event. Don't miss the opportunity to experience the pinnacle of good taste, mingle with stars, and enjoy a pleasure-packed weekend at the base of spectacular Aspen Mountain. June 16 - 18, 2017.
  • Aspen Words | Summer Words
    • Aspen Summer Words is the Rocky Mountain gateway to the literary world. Recognized as one of the country’s pre-eminent literary festivals, Summer Words welcomes visitors and locals alike to celebrate writing and writers in Aspen for a week each June. The exceptional faculty and awe-inspiring mountain scenery combine to make this a writing retreat like no other. June 18 - 23, 2017.
  • Aspen Ideas Festival
    • The Aspen Ideas Festival is the nation's premier, public gathering place for leaders from around the globe and across many disciplines to engage in deep and inquisitive discussion of the ideas and issues that shape our lives and challenge our times. Held right here at the Aspen Meadows Resort property. June 22 - July 1, 2017.
