Bildungsideal - that's German for a well-rounded, intellectually-whole individual. Mortimer Adler believed that through the study of the 'Great Books', classic texts by Plato, Aristotle, Shakespeare and more, individual and cultural reform became attainable. It was this German term and Adler's notion that Walter Paepcke blended together to create the Aspen Institute's iconic roundtable discussions.
Based on the Aspen Institute’s classic approach to open dialogue, the core of the Leadership Philosophies & The Aspen Idea program brings team members, the world’s most influential classical literature and life’s most basic yet profound questions in to a moderated discussion. Not your typical ‘trust fall’ exercise, this teambuilding program delves into unique discussions exploring the practical applications of values, management and leadership.
